CPAD Corner (September 2015)

CPAD Alhambra Headquarter:

Thank you! HAKKA Foundation - July 27, 2015, HAKKA Foundation supported CPAD’s Equipment Funding proposal for a total of $10,000 for our Saturday Program and Parent education/workshop, outreach and bi-weekly social recreational programs. CPAD want to thank you for your continuous support for CPAD’s efforts to provide culturally and linguistically relevant services to our mono-lingual and bilingual Chinese American immigrant families with special need loved ones is truly appreciated.

CPAD’s first summer program has quickly come to an end.  The program offers 90 minutes basketball drills, lunch and 60 minutes line dance.  During basketball sessions, coach let participants practice basic skills - dribbling, passing, shooting, rebounding and defensing, and all get chances to practice.  First session was a bit disorganized due to the fact that everyone was new to everyone else.  However, situation in sessions that followed improve greatly and majority, if not all, are engaged.
‘Right one, two, three, four, left one, two…’ everyone in the gym practices the body movements according to the teacher’s instruction.  Once we get the hang of the rhythmic movements; then the fun part begins; we dance to the music!! Stepping forward and backward, stretching arms out to the right and left, clapping, kicking …after an hour, everyone has had a good exercise.
Lunch is provided at noon.  It is also a social time that we can share information, express our concerns, get to know some of our members better and much more.  Overall I think this is a successful program.                                   – Alice Chang
