CPAD Community Resource Center (CPRC) - Parent Support Meeting

Self-Determination gives people the authority to control the money that is spent on the services they receive. The person will be given an “individualized budget” for the year and can then decide how that money is spent. The law establishes “facilitators” to help the person plan his or her life and stay within their budget. The law also creates a “Fiscal Management Service” (FMS) that acts as the “bank,” holding the funds, paying the people the person hires, doing background checks, and paying required insurance. People who are interested should educate themselves now so they are ready when the time comes....

Financial Planning

Financial planning is vital for families with special needs.  We are very fortunate to have Mr. Jacob Shen be our 10/18/14 parent meeting speaker.  Mr. Shen is a retired Financial Planner who is also a parent with special needs child. He will discuss in depth the crucial aspects of financial planning.  We encourage all parents to come to learn about financial planning.“Person-Centered Plan” PCP is a key part of Self-Determination, which is much more comprehensive than the current IPP process and will be essential for success when Self-Determination arrives. But you don’t have to wait until Self-Determination gets here to have a PCP. You can have one now. This training will explain the PCP process and provide strategies for making sure all the services and supports you need are identified and included. Having a detailed and specific PCP now will help make sure you are ready when Self-Determination becomes available.
