CPAD Corner (August 2012)


CPAD Alhambra Headquarter:

Triumph in the dragon Boat RaceCPAD won the gold medal in the special team competition, 2012 Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival!  This year, CPAD has a total of ten families enrolled in the Dragon Boat Race.  After six weeks of rigorous training, there were 8 special children, who were dedicated throughout the training, participated in the competition. All participants had to wake up before 6 a.m., and arrived at Long Beach for paddling training every Saturday since June .....

June 28, the day of the race, was a beautiful and sunny day.  All of our contestants were spirited, fully charged and ready to compete.  They paddled swiftly in unison and reached the finish line well ahead of their competitor. Six weeks of hard work culminated in winning the race and the gold medal.  It brought cheers and smiles on CPAD's families, the victory was sweet indeed!

 

CPAD Orange County Chapter:

Parent Support Meeting -  7/21/2012, CPAD Orange County Chapter – Ms. Scarlett vonThenen of Area Board XI gave us a talk on “Living Options for People with Developmental Disabilities”.  Living options for children include: family home, foster family agency, community care facility, intermediate care facility, and skilled nursing facility.  Living options for adults include all those for children.  In addition, there are independent living and supported living.  Ms. vonThenen provided detailed information about each type of facilities, the funding sources, the different services and supports available for our children, and how to choose an appropriate facility.  Living option is a planning team discussion per the IPP (Individual Program Plan).  Regional Center should continue to advise consumers and families of all available living options .....

Music Therapy Class - From June onwards, once a month, and a three-month period music therapy - includes individual and group classes, continuously led by Music Therapist Ms. Brianna Shaffer.  The courses were held in a relaxed atmosphere which filled with joy, and fun. Ms. Shaffer used a variety of different musical instruments, songs, stories to attract the attention of our children, inspire our children's imagination through music therapy way, and feel the music sound beat so that children can learn in a happy mood .....
