Presents:  School Age Stuttering Therapy:  Concepts and Strategies for Success

This training will present an overview of strategies to increase therapeutic effectiveness.

Course Objectives/Summary Description:  This course is designed to meet the needs of SLPs serving children who stutter by providing a broad-based approach to stuttering intervention in children. 

Learner Outcomes:

• Identify 3 therapy activities related to foundational knowledge and skills in stuttering therapy
.• Explain the disorder of stuttering and the process of stuttering therapy to parents and teachers
.• Demonstrate 3 fluency enhancing and 3 stuttering modification techniques.

Special Education Journey 3 by Cathy Liu and Maggie Wang

Date:  November 17, 2012, Saturday, 2 pm to 5 pm

Section I: A Graceful Growth Odyssey- A Single Mother & Her Autistic Daughter

2: 00 PM to 3:30 PM by Cathy Liu; Language: English

Cathy Liu, a single mother who spent her last 17 years to raise her daughter, at age of 3 to her junior year at the Biola University. She learned how to overcome her obstacles, based on her faith in Christ, countless tears and daily prayers. Her workshop & testimonies cover:

1.      Non-stop study is the key for advancement [single mother testimonies]
2.      Accept my daughter’s pleasure; assist her to walk on her to the next milestone
3.      Days mixed with assiduous, hardship and fulfillment
4.      Daughter’s academic development with gradual enhancement
5.      Power of prayer
6.      Final reminder to myself and recommendations to parents with special education children

Section II: How to improve my son’s social integration and communication skills

3: 30 PM to 5:00 PM by Maggie Wang; Language: English

1.       Services helped my son on his misbehaviors and social skills
2.       Procedures to obtain those services from Regional Center
3.       After school programs that assist my son’s social integration / communication
4.       One on one teaching aid, requested through the IEP and effectively of this program
5.       How I assist school academic studies / homework in the evening
6.       Post secondary planning, adulthood planning for quality life

CPAD Hacienda Heights Parent Support Group - Two Workshops

Topic:  Service Center for Independent Living-Orientation

Time: 9:40 – 10 am, Monday

Speaker: Sadith Ching  (English/Chinese) The Services Center for Independent Living offers free services to people with disabilities living in the East San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys.  SCIL advocates for inclusion, access, and self-determination on behalf of persons with disabilities. The Orientation is for people with disabilities and their parents.

Topic:  Relating in Seasons of Life - Life of Special kids and families
