OC Chapter-Music Therapy Class (February 2012)

Dear Members,

We are very fortunate to have engaged music therapist, Brianna Shaffer, to come and give our children music therapy sessions on 3/3, 4/7, and 5/5.  We have 8 spots for 1-to-1 or 1-to-2 sessions.  The individual and semi-individual sessions will begin at 2:00pm promptly.  Each session will last for 15 minutes. From 3:00pm to 4:00pm is the group lesson for all participants.

The group lessons are free for all members.  The individual lessons (1-to-1) will be $30 for 3 sessions.  The semi-individual lessons (1-to-2) will be $15 for 3 sessions.  The fees are due on 3/3/12. Please register your child/children as soon as possible.  The individual and semi-individual lessons are on the first-come-first-served basis.

Please register your child/children, even if you are planning to join the group lessons only, so that the teacher has a better idea of the number of students and can be more prepared. Please send your registration to me ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) with the following information:

OC Chapter-Music Therapy Class (January 2012)

Dear Members,

Come join in the fun on 1/28/2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  It is time to meet our new music therapist, Ms. Brianna Shaffer, recommended by member parent Haixia L.

We plan to have a group session from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.  The remaining hour will be time for parents and children to get familiar with Ms. Shaffer, and vice versa.  It is open to all members and it's FREE.

We will start registration/scheduling process right after the session for a 3-month music therapy series starting in March.  The sessions will be held on the first Saturday afternoon of each month (3/3, 4/7, 5/5).  Details will follow once we finish registration.

Hope to see you all,

Saturday Program Class

CPAD OC Chapter Offer Free - Group Drumming Music Therapy Class

To parents with special needs children, drumming music therapy can be a powerful tool to help your child, it can benefit your child's:

Social Needs:  Drumming often occurs as a collaborative, interactive process.  Participating in drumming experiences can help a child work on skills such as turn-taking and sharing.

Fine and Gross Motor Skills:  Using different playing techniques can help a child to work on different fine and gross motor skills.

Emotional Needs:  Participating in a drumming activity can help a child feel safe enough to express his/her feelings.  Additionally, they can express their feeling by banging on a drum.

Cognitive Needs:  By participating in a drumming experience, a child can be helped to work on attention, impulse control, and decision-making skills.

(Class schedule:  the 1st Saturday of the month - group music therapy class, at 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm)
